Yate Utd U13 (2) v Fry Club Colts U13 (8)
November 13, 2005
Fry’s came into this game
off the back of a disappointing defeat two weeks ago and a cancelled game due
to the weather last week.
It took just 12 minutes
for Yate to continue Fry’s bad spell when they took advantage of a mix up in
the midfield and fired in a long range shot. This was pushed wide by the diving
Tom Rose, but from the resulting corner, Yate managed to scramble the ball
across the goal-line into the net.
Fry’s battled well and kept
their heads up and this determination paid off in the 20th min with
the equaliser being fired home by Ryan Ellett.
2 minutes later, what can
only be described as a linesman’s decision (by Kevin, Ryan’s dad) which was I’m
sure an audition for “You’ve Been Framed”, saw Yate go back into the lead. A through ball found their striker miles offside, who forthwith smashed the ball into the net. 2 – 1 and Fry’s
were again on the back foot.
The game was turning into
a well balanced end to end match with Brooks and Jefferies working well at the
back, and Tom Hooper pushing forward to put in some piercing crosses from the
right
Dan Stone also came up
from defence for a Fry’s corner in the 25th minute, and connected
with the weak Yate clearance on the edge of the box to fire in Fry’s equaliser.
The Fry’s boys now started
to play with the winning belief of old and piled on the pressure with efforts
on goal coming from Pople, Skinner and Buley.
The game tipped in Fry’s
advantage when they went ahead for the first time in the
game when a looping cross was met by the head of Ellett, who never took his eye
off the ball until it hit the back of the net and he turned to celebrate.
The second half saw the
introduction of Jack Baber out on the left. 5 minutes into the half saw his trusty
left foot called upon to whip in a testing corner, but it was just too long.
Fry’s started to put together
some excellent passing play that the Premiership would be proud of. The ball
was played out wide to Pople who played a delightful one - two with Buley. The
resulting cross found the ever present Ellett on the back post who netted his
hatrick (4-2).
The 59th minute
saw Fry’s go 5-2 up when Dan Buley’s excellent first touch brought the ball
down under control and subsequently slotted the ball calmly past the Yate
keeper.
Fry’s now had the game
under control and slotted in their sixth with Pople tapping in from close
range.
The 7th came
from John Cotgreave who came on to replace Buley. His thunderbolt of a shot was
no way going to be stopped by the Yate keeper.
Further subs saw Lewis
Marcham and Tom Sheehan come on and add fresh legs to give that extra strength.
Yate nearly had to call a
carpenter after Justin Skinner almost shattered the post. I’m surprised he
never mentioned it after the match !!!
The comprehensive victory
was sealed by Ryan Ellett one minute from time when he got his fourth, and Fry’s
eighth.
Back to the winning ways
lads, that’s how the crowd like it.
